Target Audience
This course is a refresher program for nurses who have attended basic chemotherapy administration classes and wish to update their knowledge. New information regarding recent trends in oncology nursing, chemotherapy review, and oncologic emergencies will be discussed. This course serves as an update for nurses knowledgeable in the care of patients receiving chemotherapy. No prerequisites required.
Continuing Education Credit
This conference has been approved for 8 contact hours and is offered by the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute, which is accredited by the Florida State Board of Nursing under provider number NCE2012. No partial credit will be given.
Objectives
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
- Identify current trends in oncology prevention, detection and treatment.
- Provide evidence-based interventions for cancer treatment symptoms.
- Identify the etiology, recognition and management of selected oncologic emergencies.
- Identify appropriate nursing measures and considerations when administering new chemotherapeutic drugs.
- Recognize issues in managing vesicants, irritants, infusion reactions, vascular access devices and hazardous drugs.

Pat Reymann, RN, MSN, AOCN
Pat Reymann is an oncology nurse educator and consultant from Birmingham, Alabama. She has worked in oncology since 1974, becoming an OCN in 1988 and AOCN in 2003. Pat is active in the Oncology Nursing Society as well as the American Cancer Society. She enjoys teaching the public, patients and health care professionals about exciting progress being made in the management of cancer. She has gained a reputation as an excellent teacher and is a well-respected authority on cancer nursing.
