Central Florida’s First and Only Comprehensive Bone Marrow Transplant Center
The Bone Marrow Transplant Program at the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute (FHCI) is Central Florida’s first and only comprehensive bone marrow transplant (BMT) center. Today, the program has an international reputation for excellence, performing more than 350 transplants to treat a wide range of conditions, including aplastic anemia, leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, bone marrow failure syndromes, germ cell tumors and neuroblastoma.
Some of the best outcomes in the nation occur at FHCI, thanks to our highly respected team of bone marrow transplant professionals who are dedicated to ensuring that you receive the finest care in the region, if not the nation.
The largest cancer care center in Central Florida, we are:
- Accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) for meeting stringent volume and standard of care requirements.
- Accredited by the National Marrow Donor Program.
- A participant in the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB), a national clinical group sponsored by the National Cancer Institute.
FHCI performs autologous transplants, which use the patient’s own marrow or stem cells as well as allogeneic transplants, which use the stem cells or marrow of donors. All aspects of the transplant process are handled at the center, including pre-transplantation evaluations, peripheral blood stem cell and bone marrow collections and post-transplant care. In 2011, FHCI performed its first adult umbilical cord blood transplant, which makes transplants possible for patients who lack a matched sibling or a suitable volunteer donor.
