Dr. Juan Carlos Varela obtained his MD/PhD from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2010. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at the Osler medical training program at Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by fellowship training in hematology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Varela’s clinical interests include novel immune therapies for hematological malignancies and bone marrow transplantation, treatments for leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma. He is the principal investigator for numerous national clinical trials. Dr. Varela is passionate about providing support to his patient and their families and caregivers. His personal and professional philosophy is to treat the patient, not just the disease.
