Wesam Ahmed MD, PhD, MSc, is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology, and fellowship-trained in hematology and oncology. Dr Wessam Ahmed joined the Blood and Marrow Transplant program at Florida Hospital from Tufts Medical Center in Boston as an established science researcher and outstanding physician. During his fellowship in hematology and at Tufts Medical Center nationally renowned stem cell transplantation researchers and pioneers mentored him. He served as a faculty member in the blood and marrow transplant program at Tufts Medical Center prior to joining Florida Hospital.
Dr. Ahmed brings enhances the robust transplant program at Florida Hospital with his 20 years of fundamental science research expertise in hematological malignancies and cancer immunology. He is interested in developing new strategies for treatment of GvHd based on ex Vivo tissue cultures.
Dr. Ahmed earned his medical degree at Menoufia University, located in Egypt, where he also received a Master of Science in clinical chemistry. He completed a hematology/oncology fellowship at Tufts Medical Center and an internal medicine residency at Brown University’s Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island. Dr. Ahmed is an accomplished fundamental scientist, having earned a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics from the Medical College of Virginia Commonwealth University, followed by post-doctoral training at Harvard Medical School’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ahmed has conducted in-depth research studies published in high impacts journals and presented on the highest-level national meetings including the education session at American Society of Hematology 2013.
