Tarek Mekhail, MD, a surgeon turned thoracic oncologist, uses his unique background to improve the care he provides to patients at Florida Hospital. By reviewing each case from both a surgical and therapeutic perspective, Dr. Mekhail determines the best treatment approach for each patient’s individual condition. After attending medical school at Cairo University, he began his medical career as a surgeon in the United Kingdom. Then, Dr. Mekhail completed his medical oncology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. His transition to oncology took his focus from performing surgery to providing comprehensive care for patients, a duty he takes seriously. In fact, he’ll tell you that the most rewarding difference is seeing the impact his care makes in each patient’s life.
Today, Dr. Mekhail leads the Thoracic Oncology Program at Florida Hospital Cancer Institute as medical director and works as an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida. He specializes in treating lung cancer (thoracic cancer), kidney cancer, head/neck cancer and aero-digestive malignancies.
