Your body has two adrenal glands. These small, triangular-shaped organs sit atop each of your two kidneys. Adrenal glands are responsible for maintaining the body’s salt and water balance, regulating blood pressure, and managing the uptake of protein, fats and carbohydrates. These glands also produce hormones that help your body adapt to stress, and others that affect secondary sex characteristics.
The two forms of adrenal gland cancer are quite rare. Adrenocortical carcinoma attacks the outer layer of cells. Pheochromocytoma affects the gland’s center.
