Governor Rick Scott Appoints Biomedical Research Advisory Council

ORLANDO, Fla., June 24, 2014 – Governor Rick Scott has announced the appointment of Florida Hospital Cancer Institute Executive Director Dr. David Decker to the James and Esther King Biomedical Research Advisory Council. He succeeds Dr. Claes Wahlestedt and his appointed term is June 11, 2014 through January 10, 2015.

The Biomedical Research program will support research initiatives addressing the health care concerns of Floridians including tobacco-related cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and pulmonary disease.

Dr. Decker has a background in both hematology and oncology. He oversees all operational aspects of the institute, which has an estimated net operating budget of $135 million, 200 employees and sees about 5,000 new patients a year. 

Decker, who specializes in breast cancer, has been an investigator on industry and National Cancer Institute grants, and has trained a number of physicians.

Florida Hospital congratulates Decker on this honorary appointment to the Biomedical Research Advisory Council.
