Our Program Overview

The Florida Hospital Cancer Institute (FHCI) treats more newly diagnosed cancer patients than any other health care system in the entire southeast region of the United States. FHCI is a destination hospital; patients from all over the country and the world come to Central Florida to receive our special brand of quality, compassionate care. This includes cutting edge research, disease prediction and early detection, treatment and educational, emotional and spiritual support. Our team provides uncompromising care using a multidisciplinary approach that leverages the expertise and experience of our entire medical team, including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons and specialists.

Following is a brief overview of our cancer programs:

Bone Marrow Transplant Program

FHCI has been performing bone marrow transplants to treat leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma and other blood-related cancers since 1996. Our transplant program is accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy, offering patients the support and care they need every step of the way, from the initial consultation with your primary care physician to treatment and follow-up. Staffed by an experienced team and offering state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment for brain and spine tumors, FHCI performs more than 800 brain and spine surgeries a year. Our neurological suites feature the latest MRI scanning technologies to confirm the success of your procedure in real time, exposing you to less radiation, reducing recovery time and providing better outcomes. FHCI’s Clinical Research Center is nationally recognized and one of the most active clinical trial programs in the nation, participating in more than 100 trials annually. Gamma Knife Center

Committed to providing our patients with the most advanced treatments available, our surgical team at the Gamma Knife Center utilizes non-invasive surgical procedures to treat lesions of the brain, including malignant tumors, benign lesions, vascular malformations and functional disorders, all without having to make an incision. Nearly 3,000 patients have been treated at FHCI using non-invasive surgical techniques since 1996. Read more...

Gastrointestinal Cancer Program

Working closely with the Digestive Health Center at Florida Hospital, FHCI offers a multidisciplinary approach to digestive wellness and health care. Gastrointestinal and colorectal cancer often requires multiple therapies, including radiation, surgery and chemotherapy. The Gynecologic Oncology Program at FHCI is one of the most highly regarded programs of its kind in the country and among the top five in the nation in robotic surgeries to treat a range of gynecologic oncology disorders. Head and Neck Cancer Program

More than 87,000 people are diagnosed with head and neck cancer each year. The head and neck cancer team at the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute works closely with other specialists and experts to develop a plan that utilizes the most effective strategies to treat your cancer. FHCI has the largest group of ear, nose and throat surgeons in Central Florida who use the latest advances in medicine, including transoral laser microsurgery and endoscopic skull-base surgeries to improve outcomes and offer patients the best hope for a full recovery. Pediatric Cancer Program

Thanks to the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute and Florida Hospital for Children, your child’s needs can be met right here in the state. Our pediatric cancer experts come from all over the world to practice medicine at our facilities, utilizing the newest technologies and treatments to address a wide range of pediatric issues, including leukemia, lymphoma, brain tumors, anemia, sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, blood and clotting disorders and thalassemia. Radiation Oncology Program

FHCI has one of the most experienced radiotherapy teams in Central Florida, using highly advanced image-guided radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery and intensity-modulated radiation therapy as well as the latest approach to treating cancer, TrueBeam radiotherapy. TrueBeam produces three-dimensional imagery of the tumor in far less time and with 25% less X-ray exposure than traditional imaging techniques. Read more...

Surgical Oncology Program

In many cases, surgery is part of the treatment plan for patients with cancer. Our goal at FHCI is to provide you with an expert team, one that is experienced in removing the cancer while leaving the surrounding area alone as much as possible. Our surgeons perform nearly 10,000 surgeries a year, including diagnostic, preventative, curative, supportive and reconstructive procedures.
