Supporting our hospital and our community
The Florida Hospital Cancer Institute (FHCI) stands at the forefront of cancer research and treatment, largely because of the generous support of the community. You not only help us invest in new technologies, therapies and top-tier research and world renowned doctors and specialists, but support us through your volunteerism and donations of time, money and lifesaving fluids.
As a not-for-profit hospital, you can rest assured that your donations will stay in the community and benefit you, your family, friends and neighbors. What’s more, your support directly affects the lives of those in the community who are faced with the diagnosis of cancer.
Giving to Our Foundation
Direct financial support allows us to expand our services, fund new research, make critical investments in equipment and offer the best patient care possible in a state-of-the-art facility. It also allows us to offer care to the uninsured and underinsured in our community, ensuring that no one goes without the care they need simply because of their inability to pay.
Funds raised by our foundation have led to the development of a high-risk breast clinic, the launch of cord blood transplants and the addition of a genetic counseling program. Additional donations have funded the Translational Research Lab and gynecological-oncology research in collaboration with the prestigious Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute.
One of the most visible signs of your generous support is the Eden Spa, located on the first floor of the institute. Designed for our female patients who are battling cancer, the spa offers mastectomy garments, beautiful wigs, lymphedema treatment and a line of mineral-based products that are safe for use during treatment. The spa is funded entirely by generous donations to the Harriett’s Founding 100 fund, named after local philanthropist Harriett Lake who donated the seed money to start the spa.

Donating Your Time and Talents
Providing award-winning health care requires a lot of hands to make small work. Our medical team relies heavily on our network of volunteers to provide critical support and assistance throughout FHCI.
No matter what your skills, talents or experience, we can find a place for you to volunteer. Whether it’s working directly with our patients, providing information to visitors, working in the gift shop or serving the spiritual needs of the community through pastoral care, there’s truly something for everyone at the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute.
One of the great things about volunteering is that you not only support the needs of our staff and patients, but you also gain valuable experience in new roles, building relationships, improving skill sets and improving your health and wellness in the process. It’s been shown that volunteering can even increase your life expectancy and overall physical, mental and emotional health.
What’s does it take to become a volunteer at FHCI? You must be at least 16 years old and get a background check. If you’re accepted into the program, you’ll need to get a drug screen and TB test, both of which are paid by the hospital. If you’re working with children, some immunizations may also be required prior to your start date.
