Garry Welsh honors his wife’s lung cancer battle by competing in Ironman race


ORLANDO, Fla., November 7, 2013- Garry Welsh is going the distance for Lung Cancer Awareness Month by “Tri-ing For A Cure.” The 49-year-old businessman is leaving the boardroom behind to compete in his first Ironman triathlon in Arizona on November 17. He is dedicating this 140.6-mile triathlon in honor of his wife’s courageous battle with lung cancer. He has also set a goal to raise $60,000 for cancer research at Florida Hospital.

ORLANDO, Fla. November 4, 2013 – Amy Perry is a survivor and a fighter.  After battling breast cancer twice, she joined Florida Hospital’s Pink Army two years ago in hopes of making a difference in the community and spreading the word about early detection.

The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 24th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients. "One glass at a Time" -- the motto of 9-year-old Mark McHale. What started out as a school project became a way to support a cause that has affected Mark's family. You see, Mark’s dad is a cancer survivor and his aunt is currently battling breast cancer. So Mark decided to do something that would make a difference -- he built a lemonade stand to raise money for cancer patients at Florida Hospital Cancer Institute.

Florida Hospital Cancer Institute Earns ACR Accreditation

Orlando, Florida — The Florida Hospital Cancer Institute has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Radiation oncology (radiation therapy) is the careful use of high-energy radiation to treat cancer. A radiation oncologist may use radiation to cure cancer or to relieve a cancer patient’s pain.
